A wedding photographer died Monday after falling into the back of his horse, a veterinarian said.
The incident happened around 11:30 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 9 and U.S. 41 in Monroe County, according to Wayne A. Brown, director of animal care for the Monroe County Health Department.
The veterinarian said the horse fell in front of Brown’s pickup truck, but the driver did not see the fall.
Brown said he tried to help the horse and that the driver’s truck came to a stop in the snow.
Brown tried to pull the horse away from the driver, but Brown said the driver pushed him away and drove away.
Brown then saw the horse fall into a ditch and was able to get the driver to get out of the vehicle, he said.
Brown was called to the scene.
The driver was taken to a hospital in Fairfield, and Brown said he was able find out later Monday that the horse had died.
Brown told the Associated Press the driver had been working at a farm and was wearing a harness with a safety pin attached.
